Blast from the Past

Well, the not too distant past.

I am getting two prints of this woodcut back from an arts center in Aiken, SC.

It is from the edition of twenty.  I have been sold out of this piece for about six months.

So, if you were wanting one and though it was too late, now is your chance.

They are 32" high x 24" wide (image size) and cost $600 each.

Oh, and I think American Folk Art in Asheville has one remaining also...

Big Proof of Small Town

This is a 36" x 48" woodcut proof (black ink on newsprint).

It is the first woodcut I have tried at that size and the first proof off the new press.

Not sure if it is a strong enough image to pursue...

Cutting color blocks and spending the time printing it twenty times will take a couple of weeks,

not to mention about $500 dollars worth of paper and ink.

I can see two separate images that would be stronger if I ripped the block into two smaller pieces.

Any opinions?

New Year, New Press

This is my old press, the one that I built thirteen years ago.

I still plan to use it for most of my work.

Thats Grubby Green laying by the press...

This is my new press.  I bought it off ebay from a lady in Wisconsin.

I'll be able to print image sizes of 36" x 48".  Working on one right now...

It is a Conrad press.  The bed is 40 x 72. It weighs 2600 lbs.

I had to hire three people to help move it about three hundred feet

down the driveway, around the house, over about 40 feet of mulch,

Then I had to take out two big floor to ceiling windows to move it in the house.

The cost of freight and getting it into the house was almost as much

as I paid for the press itself.

Bunch of Shows

Okay, the next six weeks are going to be busy (even more so than the past five weeks).

Next Friday, November 4th (Open Studios Weekend) I have a show opening at Art & Light Gallery called "Running with Paint", reception starts at 6pm.  The show runs all of November.

The following two days are Greenville Open Studios, so come by my home studio Saturday the 5th or Sunday the 6th and see where I make my work.  You can also see my gallery / studio space on Pendleton Street at the Flat Iron building.

Then on November 10th (Thursday).  I have a show "Brush and Gouge" opening at Centre Stage in Greenville.  Reception begins at 6pm.  The show runs through December 19th.

On November 11th I travel to Savannah to take part in the 17th annual Telfair Art Fair.  The show runs all weekend.  I think there are about 100 artists in the show.

Finally, dates are yet to be confirmed, but I have a solo show at Gallery Espresso in Savannah.  I think it will be for the month of December.
